Hey folks,

I know most of you don't even have a passing interest in Neverwinter Nights 2, but I figured I would pass along an invite to Beta 1 of Veiled in Mists.  It is finally going online at 5:30pm AST tonight.  So if you do have NWN2 installed and want to give it a shot, be my guest.  Cheesy

The module doesn't require any expansion packs, just the base NWN2.  It does, however, require extensive modifications, so there are two required downloads before you can play.  I would also like to take a moment to point out that the game does not, in any way, use the NWN2 combat/spell system as you know it.  Aside from the 6 second timer, the rules of combat have completely changed.  In addition, the module uses a customized mana base spell casting system.  As a matter of fact, very little of this module is based on the old game engine (including how skills are improved and used).

Before I basically write out a manual in this posting, I figure I should move on to the files and what is needed...

The vim_md.exe file contains the haks, override, tlk, and pwc file that need to be placed in your Neverwinter Nights 2 folder within your My Documents folder. It is a self extracting archive, so simply download the file and point it to the My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2 folder it will place the files in the correct locations.

The vim_nwn2.exe file contains the modified dialog.tlk file and a copy of the 1.13 original dialog.tlk file. These need to be placed in the installation folder for Neverwinter Nights 2. When you run the self-extracting archive, simply point it to the folder that you installed Neverwinter Nights 2 into and it will place the files in the correct locations.

In both cases you will want to overwrite any older files.

You should also note that it will replace any files in you Override directory with those used by Veiled in Mists.

If you want to play the regular Neverwinter Nights 2 game, you will have to move the contents of the Override directory temporarily to restore the original game.

When the files are all installed, then you need to use the direct connect option under multiplayer and type in the address:

veiledinmists.dyndns.org

The port is the default port of 5121.

There is apparently a bug in the context handler for SecruROM in both NWN2 and Mass Effect (and any other game recently patched to a new version of SecruROM).  Here is a link to a fix from SecruROM.

Figured I would post it here since ViM Beta 1 requires 1.13 of NWN2 to play and version 1.13 is the affected version.

So the module is now up to version 0.0.2.0.  The 0.0.2.0 patch included a new area (Styrith Woods South) and the basic tier 1 trade skills (tanner, miner, and herbalist).  Trainers and merchants for those trade skills are now online in the Styrith Glade.

Technically it is at 0.0.2.1 as there have been some hot fixes implemented to various abilities.

The need for 2 downloads and the override directory will be eliminated with the 1.14 (aka 1.21) patch of NWN2.  At which point the 0.0.3.0 patch for Veiled in Mists will be placed live (or shortly there after).

As of this patch the server now requires you to have the Mask of the Betrayer expansion.

Doing NPC introductions and I am going to start making some movies of the toolset and the module itself.  First NPC is the Warden of Midgard...
